How to use it

Use one copy for one learner and one bounded speaking task. Complete page 2 before practice, page 3 after the first attempt, and page 4 after a comparable retest. Keep observations descriptive: what the listener understood, where repair was needed, and what changed.

01 / BEFORE PRACTICE

Define the communication task

What should the listener understand or do? Write one observable outcome, not “be fluent” or “sound better”.

What makes this task real? Name the role, information gap, decision, constraint, or follow-up that requires interaction.

Choose one practice focus

Retrieval — words arrive in time Repair — recover when meaning breaks Interaction — respond and follow up Clarity — key meaning is intelligible Transfer — use it in a changed task Pressure — maintain the task under limits

Access and support plan Planning time, visual prompt, captions, typed mode, slower playback, breaks, partner choice, or another support.

Evidence to keep Choose only what is needed: task note, exact phrase, timestamp, listener response, or agreed recording.

02 / AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT

Notice before correcting

What happened in the task? Describe task completion and the listener's response before judging language form.

One consequential moment Copy the exact words or mark the smallest moment that changed meaning, timing, interaction, or listener effort.

Feedback confidence What is directly observable? What is an interpretation? What still needs a reliable source or qualified reviewer?

One next drill Write a small task that targets the moment without rehearsing one fixed script.

03 / RETEST AND NEXT DECISION

Check transfer, not perfection

Comparable retest Keep the goal and practice focus; change one detail, person, prompt, or time condition.

What transferred? Record what survived the changed task and what still required repair or support.

Choose the next decision

Retire — outcome is stable enough Repeat — same drill, new prompt Change — use a different drill Escalate — verify with a source or person Reduce pressure or complexity Increase variation or follow-ups
